We all know Christian Louboutin as the iconic designer behind red bottoms, but what lead Mr. Louboutin to his career? Christian Louboutin was born in Paris in 1963. He wasn't generally interested in school, and somewhat struggled to find his passion. Then one day he was visiting the Palais de la Porte Dorée museum, and saw a sign saying that high heels were not permitted in the museum.
Christian Louboutin saw this sign and was instantly struck, "When you entered the museum, there was a sketch representing a shoe in profile. This sketch was a woman’s shoe, but I had never seen such a shoe. It really influenced me to understand that literally everything you look at has been thought by someone’s brain, has been drawn, has been designed in order to become reality." Louboutin said in an interview with The New York Times.
This launched Christian Louboutin into his long and successful career in the fashion industry. It was1992 when the designer opened his first boutique at 19 Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Paris. It wasn't until 1993 when he added his infamous trademark- red soles. "My assistant was sitting there, painting her nails red. I took one look and decided to color my soles red as a statement for the season," Louboutin told Footwear News. "I thought, 'Oh my god! Red soles are so flirtatious,' and my customers asked me not to stop."
According to The New Yorker, he sells more than 500,000 pairs of his shoes each year. Some of his most famous styles include The Kate, Vieira Sneaker, Christian Louboutin's shoes have attracted the likes of Princess Caroline of Monoco, Margot Robbie, Taylor Swift, Leonardo Dicaprio, Kate Moss, and many more celebrities.
