Happy hump day, friends! Anybody else attempting to get back in the work groove? The struggle has been real over here. We got back from my in-laws this morning and have spent most of the day unpacking and reorganizing. It's giving me the major itch to do some massive closet clean-outs. Amidst the strong pull I feel to clean, I keep getting distracted by packing for upcoming trips. We're taking a couple mini trips in January, but the one I am most excited about is a Yoga retreat that I'll be taking with my mom and sister.
We'll be heading to Kripalu to learn about nutrition from John Bagnulo and spend the weekend doing yoga and relaxing. I'm super pumped on so many levels and one of the smaller reasons is that I get to visit Massachusetts. I've never been to MA, so I'm super jazzed. I hope it's snowy while we're there too, because this Texas gal rarely gets to see snow.
As I've been thinking about what to pack for this trip - specifically the cold weather, I realized I was missing one key piece for my suitcase. I don't have a good winter coat! Sure, I have pea coats and trendy coats, but not a puffer coat that is made to keep you warm in freezing temps. It kind of put me in a dilemma to be honest. I knew I needed one, but it was hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on one that I honestly may never wear again after this trip.
Then, as fate would have it, I was scrolling through my instagram feed and stumbled across a post from Clotheshorse Anonymous of this coat! I honestly about died and instantly messaged CA to hold it for me, crossing my fingers it was my size. I loved the fur collar, the cinched waistband, the neutral color (obviously), and the tiny gold details. Within 24 hours raced into try it on and it was perfect! While I was there checking out their merchandise it dawned on me - why do I ever buy winter wear via consignment?
Y'all, Clotheshorse Anonymous has a section of their store specifically designed to winter coats and ski gear. The skit gear is what got me to be honest. For most of us Texans, we live in warm temps most of the time. Occasionally some of us sneak away to ski, but not usually more than 2 or 3 times out of the year. That means you're spending a fortune on ski gear that you may only wear for a couple of days. It just doesn't seem worth it. But, if you could get ski gear or big puffer coats at a fraction of the cost, but still in mint condition, why wouldn't you?
So what's my big secret to save money on winterwear? Shop consignment! It's such a time and money saver and Clotheshorse Anonymous gets shipments of clothing every single day, so their inventory is constantly changing! You're bound to find the perfect coat! Also, I know I've mentioned this before, but a lot of their inventory has never been worn. For example, the jacket in today's post came with stickers on the zippers and decals of this jacket - it had never been worn!
